Upgrade a sensor on Linux (service)

Not yet available

The Linux service package is planned but not delivered, so there is nothing to upgrade yet. For a container deployment, see Upgrade a sensor on Linux (Docker).

What it will look like

The intent is that upgrades are an ordinary package upgrade followed by a service restart, with the sensor's stored API token surviving in place so it rejoins as the same sensor — same name, same history, same integration assignments, no re-enrolment.

The operational care is expected to be the same as for the container deployment: disable a sensor that is mid-scan before restarting it, note the version you are on, and confirm the new one in the console after it checks in.

TODO

Document the upgrade command, whether the service restarts itself, how to roll back to a previous package version, and anything the package does to the on-disk data that would affect a rollback.
